One Thing Leads to Another...
Looking at my recent Instagram posts, I realized that I only shared two photos in July... That is really disappointing since I was actually working on a lot! Fortunately, I have the photos to prove it. Following is a synopsis of my creative endeavors of July and a great example of how I work. I would characterize my process as one thing leads to another, and then I get DISTRACTED!
First thing this month, I had fun making the Independence Day piece that you can see on Instagram. I had the patriotic paper in my stash, so I just played around with it until a star was born!
I started a piece early in the month that was inspired by a photo of a flower. I had never tried to recreate a flower before, and I was excited to give it a try... but I got stuck before I even started putting it together. Here is the flower photo, the color scheme, and some elements of the piece in progress:
While trying to move forward on the flower piece, I was confronted with a new idea -- something that wasn't working for the flower inspired a new piece! I made all these white modules and played around with them.
Those experiments eventually led to my latest Instagram post using gold paper on a momi paper background:
At the same time that I had these pieces going, I was making many modules for something else. This is time consuming, but easy. The difficult part is settling on the arrangement of the modules, but I am getting close to making a decision. As you can see, sometimes I use computer software to help me visualize the possibilities:
I also played around with little pieces of paper that were headed for the garbage just for fun. Here is what happened to them:
These experiments led to this piece made with a few sheets of computer paper:
As if I didn't already have enough to do, I had the urge to try my hand at paper earrings, too! Here is how my progress went on that:
Then, I got distracted and made these for fun:
Whew! Not everything becomes a completed piece, so it is easy for me to forget how much I actually did accomplish! I'm glad I wrote this blog to remind me!
Since this blog post included photos of a lot of works-in-progress, I would love to know what you would most like to see me pursue to completion. Just leave me your suggestions in the comments section, or email me directly at PaperMeditations@gmail.com.
I look forward to hearing from you all!
